barbara brocato

Originally from Buffalo, NY, Barbara Brocato is an iconographer residing on the Northshore of South Louisiana. From an early age, she knew that she would be an artist.  She majored in art in high school and college, but she did not really enjoy the process.  She often had to talk herself into going to the studio.

In 1995 her parish priest asked her to do a painting that he wanted to send to Pope John Paul II, who was celebrating his fiftieth anniversary as a priest. While working on the painting, an amazing thing happened! She realized she was enjoying every minute.

She began painting religious art and mosaics, but it wasn't until 2000 that she was introduced to Iconography by Philip Zimmerman.

She can't describe how privileged she feels to be painting Jesus, His Mother Mary, the saints, angels, and prophets.  She may be the happiest artist in the world.
